Overview

The 17-day Everest Base Camp trek is an awe-inspiring adventure that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Starting in Lukla, you'll trek through lush forests, cross suspension bridges over roaring rivers, and pass through charming Sherpa villages. As you ascend, the trail opens up to reveal magnificent views of towering snow-capped peaks, including the mighty Mount Everest. You'll experience the challenges of high altitude, navigating rocky paths and steep ascents, but also enjoy the reward of reaching iconic landmarks like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, and finally, the legendary Everest Base Camp itself. Along the way, you'll interact with friendly locals, learn about Sherpa culture, and create lasting memories. This incredible journey offers a unique blend of physical exertion, natural beauty, and a sense of accomplishment as you stand in the shadow of the world's highest peak.

Everest Base Camp is one of the most popular treks in Nepal.  It lies in the lap of world’s highest mountain Mount Everest. The trek takes you through the alpine diversity of nature with numbers of stunning attractions. The Everest Base camp trek is simply a journey that takes you right to the heart of high Himalayas of Khumbu region. Trekking to the base camp of the world’s highest summit along with interacting with the friendly and helpful Sherpa’s known for their loyalty and warm hospitality, exploring the rural Nepal and the life of people living there, visiting the old age monasteries and most of all having an enthralling life time adventurous journey is exactly what the Everest Base Camp Trek is.
Everest Base Camp Trek can be started by taking a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla or by driving to Jiri or Shivalaya. Most of the trekkers start the journey by flying to Lukla as it saves most of the time than driving to Jiri and start trekking from there. But if you have time and want to travel via less crowded route then you can drive to Jiri and start trekking from there and fly out by Lukla. Make sure you have scheduled two days for acclimatization at Namche and Pheriche to avoid altitude sickness.
On our trek you will reach at a high point of 5545m to the best view point on earth which is Kalapatthar. It offers the superb view of Mount Everest along with other several mountains. You will also pass through several Sherpa villages such as, Khumjung, Pangboche, Namche Bazaar which is also a major economic hub of people living in Khumbu region, and many other villages. You will also visit different monasteries such as Tengboche monastery which is the biggest monastery of that region. You will also encounter the amazing panoramic views of mountains such as Ama Dablam , Pumori,Lhotse, Nuptse etc along with beautiful Gokyo Lake and Gokyo valley.

FAQs

The best seasons for the Everest Base Camp trek are the pre-monsoon spring season (March to May) and the post-monsoon autumn season (September to November). During these months, the weather is generally stable, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for trekking. The spring season offers beautiful blooming rhododendrons and vibrant landscapes, while the autumn season provides stunning mountain views and a pleasant trekking environment. Both seasons have lower chances of precipitation and better visibility, allowing trekkers to enjoy the majestic Himalayan scenery and maximize their chances of reaching Everest Base Camp safely.

The cost of a 17-day Everest Base Camp trek can vary depending on several factors such as the trekking season, the level of services and accommodations chosen, and the inclusion of additional services like guides, porters, permits, and transportation. On average, the cost can range from approximately $1,500 to $3,000 USD per person. This cost typically covers permits, domestic flights to and from Lukla, accommodation and meals during the trek, a guide and/or porter, and basic amenities. Additional expenses to consider include travel insurance, personal trekking gear, extra snacks and drinks, and gratuities. It's advisable to research and compare prices from different trekking agencies to find the best value for your budget while ensuring a reputable and reliable service provider.

The duration of hiking to Everest Base Camp can vary depending on various factors such as the starting point, trekking pace, acclimatization schedule, and individual fitness levels. On average, it takes about 9 to 12 days to hike from Lukla (the typical starting point) to Everest Base Camp and return. This estimate includes the time required for acclimatization, rest days, and potential detours for side trips or exploration. The daily trekking distances can range from 10 to 15 kilometers, with an average of 6 to 8 hours of walking per day. It's important to note that the focus of the trek is not on speed but on safe acclimatization and enjoying the stunning landscapes along the way.

While the Everest Base Camp trek is a challenging endeavor, it is possible for beginners to undertake with proper preparation and training. It is important for beginners to have a good level of physical fitness and stamina, as the trek involves long hours of walking on varied terrain and adjusting to high altitudes. Prior hiking experience and regular exercise can help build the necessary endurance. Taking a slower and well-paced itinerary with ample acclimatization days is crucial to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Hiring a guide or joining a guided group can provide valuable assistance and support throughout the journey. With proper planning, preparation, and a positive mindset, beginners can embark on the Everest Base Camp trek and have an unforgettable experience.

Along the Everest Base Camp trekking route, there are teahouses and lodges that provide food and accommodation for trekkers. While the quality of food and cleanliness of accommodation can vary, efforts are made to maintain hygienic standards. Teahouses typically offer a range of meals, including local and international dishes. However, it's important to note that the availability of fresh ingredients may be limited due to the remote location. Accommodation in teahouses consists of basic rooms with twin beds or dormitory-style arrangements. Though not luxurious, they generally provide a clean and comfortable place to rest. It is advisable to carry water purification tablets or a filtering system to ensure access to safe drinking water throughout the trek. It's also recommended to bring personal hygiene supplies, such as hand sanitizer and wet wipes, to maintain cleanliness during the journey. Overall, while the facilities may be basic, trekkers can expect to find reasonably hygienic food and clean accommodation options along the Everest Base Camp trail.

If you find yourself in need of a helicopter in the middle of a trek, there are several steps you should take. Firstly, assess the situation and determine if immediate medical attention or evacuation is required. If so, contact the local emergency services or relevant authorities to alert them about the situation and request helicopter assistance. Provide them with your exact location, as precise as possible, and any relevant details about the nature of the emergency. Stay calm and follow any instructions provided by the authorities while awaiting the helicopter's arrival. Ensure that the landing zone is clear and accessible, removing any potential hazards. It is also crucial to have proper travel insurance that covers emergency evacuation by helicopter, as this can significantly aid in the process. Remember, prioritizing safety and promptly communicating with the appropriate authorities are key when seeking helicopter assistance during a trek.

Yes, if you have to wait for more days in the Everest Base Camp due to unforeseen circumstances or unfavorable weather conditions, it is generally expected that you will bear the cost of your extended stay. This includes expenses for accommodation, food, and other necessities during the additional days. It is essential to factor in these potential extra costs when planning your budget for the Everest Base Camp trek. Additionally, it's advisable to have some flexibility in your itinerary and allocate a buffer of extra days to account for any possible delays or extended stays that may arise during your trek.

The possibility of receiving a refund for the trek depends on several factors, including the trekking company or tour operator's policies and the terms and conditions outlined in the agreement you signed. If a person needs to return urgently from the middle of the trek due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a medical emergency or a family emergency, some trekking companies may offer a partial refund or credit for the unused portion of the trek. However, others may have strict cancellation policies that might not provide any refund once the trek has commenced. It is crucial to thoroughly review the trekking company's refund and cancellation policies before embarking on the journey and consider purchasing travel insurance that covers trip interruptions or cancellations to safeguard against unforeseen situations.
