Lukla is the gateway to the Everest Base Camp. Lukla is a small town of Sagarmatha Zone and lies in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. It is situated at an altitude of 2860 m above sea level. The airport was rated as the most dangerous airport in the world for over 20 years. The population of Lukla is less than 500 people. It takes approximately 45 minutes to reach to Lukla from Kathmandu by air. In Lukla we can see numbers of hotels and guest houses providing varieties of meals and quality services. There is a hospital which is run by foreign donations and also provides free medical services to the poor people. Travelers trekking to Everest Base camp will move towards Phakding from Lukla.
